Reading a column with a writer who has a grasp on economics 101 - how refreshing! Taxation is not the answer and its such an easy alternative but it can’t be the way we rely on raising new money. This recession is going to take serious cuts in a lot of places that will hurt. Someone needs to have a backbone and make cuts, even when, and especially when they hurt!
RB, you’re right. I would take it as far as saying that we need someone who can go in and not just cut spending, but cut government’s overreaching - actually eliminate or severely diminish unnecessary or burdensome agencies/commissions/departments.
I just don’t understand how she can think this tax makes any sense. Taxing transactions seems like one of the worst ideas: tax people’s income, and then tax them to trade stocks! And use the funds to stimulate the economy… which you just taxed… yeah.
