Christmas Day Terror Attack

Imagine my surprise at hearing of the “attempted act of terrorism” at the Detroit airport on Christmas morning.  I left that same airport on a Delta/Northwest flight later Christmas Day. There was no indication of anything out of the ordinary since it seems that our Homeland Security Secretary and our President decided there was no need to change the security threat level.

Not much comfort (forget confidence) when the DHS issued a statement that Secretary Janet Napolitano is “closely monitoring the situation,” and that “passengers may notice additional screening measures.”  Get real.

Help me here. The facts:  A man who is “in a database for having Al Qaeda connections in Nigeria” but was not put on a no fly list, was able to get a visa to travel to the United States, and who flew out of Nigeria, a country whose airports are known for weak security measures, did not “undergo secondary screening” when boarding a jet to the U.S.   And the DHS thinks the answer is to further hassle passengers here?  Is this the extent to which political correctness has taken us?

I’ve been pounding Nancy Pelosi about her denial of the threat still posed by Islamic radicals.  Apparently that denial is shared by the current administration and the Democratic majority in Congress.  The failure in “connecting the dots,” has also been a theme of my criticism.  That President Obama was not even notified until three hours after the plane landed certainly raises questions about priorities.

This country was kept safe from further attack by the former administration. We’ve had two in the first year of this one. (Fort Hood, just months ago, and now this.) In both instances, the perpetrators were recognized for their ties to Islamic Jihad. Both cases have links to Yemen.  NOTE:  A Christmas Eve airstrike in Yemen killed both the advisor to the Fort Hood terrorist and a Gitmo alumnus. Despite attending “jihad rehab”, it seems this former detainee returned to his Al Qaeda roots. Obama, in his infinite wisdom, is planning to return many more Gitmo prisoners to Yemen.  Read more here.

It is time this administration recognize that effective security policy and common sense MUST trump political correctness if we are to be kept safe!

A Final Note: It was clear the passengers took action. Our greatest strength is that Americans react to threats better than our leaders do.

Congress and Obama are using tax dollars to demonize guns as a prelude to Pelosi, Feinstein’s, Obamas promise to propose anti gun legislation after the insurance bill is signed.

They won’t bring up anti-gun legislation before November 2010. Pelosi’s already promised her Democratic underlings that the House won’t vote on any ‘controversial’ legislation next year unless it’s begun by the Senate. It’s after Nov ‘10 that we need to worry…

I’m not sure what you mean by that, “to Arthur”.

I wonder if the recent release of sensitive TSA information helped this guy out… I sure hope not.
