Health Care Smoke and Mirrors

My white paper on health care reform exposes the use of smoke and mirrors within the bill. It is amazing, though, to see the blatant bribes being offered in return for votes. The most egregious, or maybe just the one that broke the camel’s back, is the one given to Nebraska’s Senator Ben Nelson. At least it got some attention.

It seems 13 Attorneys General are taking notice. They recognize that Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson’s bribe is going to cost their states. If Nebraska is given its own little side deal (an exemption from health care costs not offered others) obviously the other states will have to pick up the slack.

I especially like the plea to Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi: “…we urge you to take the appropriate steps to protect the Constitution and the rights of the citizens of our nation.”
I have a suggestion. Why not apply that request to ALL of the provisions of the bill? And I have a question. Where are the other 37 Attorneys General? (California’s AG Jerry Brown is running for governor and apparently has no time to make a case on behalf of California citizens.)
It looks as though the government will continue to pick the winners and losers, the payers and the payees, with special interests and side deals galore. Let’s see how this plays out. If the Congress doesn’t listen to the American people, I guess it’s up to the legal beagles to get their attention. After all, if there’s one group Nancy Pelosi is ALWAYS willing to cater to, it’s the lawyers. Oh, never mind. That’s the TRIAL lawyers…

I’m from Texas, and I’m very proud that Greg Abbott is one of those AGs!
I was shocked that Nelson did that. It was such an obviously purchased vote!
