My Thoughts on Health Care Reform

Mike DeNunzio, a California Commissioner on Aging, has written a concise review of many of the flaws in the Health Care Reform bill that Congress is trying to ram through.  Although it primarily addresses the concerns of seniors, it also points out the shortcomings of socialized medicine in general and emphasizes the strengths of the U.S. system, especially in regard to our leadership in medical innovation.

Take a moment to read it.

Why can’t the mainstream media “connect the dots” the way they are connected here?   There is consensus that Health Care reform is necessary.   I believe it must be done incrementally; fixing ONLY what needs fixing.  And making sure that the measures taken to fix the problems actually work before dismantling what currently exists.  That is the thinking behind the Republican bills that have been proposed.

Let’s tell the Senate to “Kill the Bill” that is before it now; it is complicated, confusing and bloated with bureaucracy.  Start over.  And this time, tell Nancy Pelosi to listen to Republicans, because they will propose measures that build on our current system while working on solutions to the specific problems we face.

Dana, how do you feel about leaving health care reform up to the states? I think federal involvement in health care is a violation of federalism - remove the interstate trade restrictions and allow states to continue to try different forms of health care reform (they’re already doing it). Then we can choose the best reforms and adapt them throughout the states.

Asking Nancy Pelosi to listen WILL NOT work. We’ve just got to get her out of office!!!

Dana, I had never before thought about incrementalism - I guess because all that I had ever heard ideas about was sweeping reform. Now that I think about it, it makes a lot of sense.

It looks like this will pass the Senate soon… I hope that more will object to it once it goes to be matched with the House bill.
