Pelosi Needs to Stand Up for this Outrage Against Women

San Francisco, CA - Today Dana Walsh, Republican candidate for Congress in California’s 8th District, asked Speaker Nancy Pelosi to join her in condemning the United Nation actions of electing Iran to its Commission on State of Women.

“This is a slap in the face to women across the world.  I am hoping that Speaker Pelosi will join me in expressing deep disappointment in the election of Iran to this women’s commission,” said Walsh. “It is like putting a wife-batterer on commission to study domestic abuse.”

Walsh believes that Iran’s history and current practices against women should have prevented them from serving on this commission which is “dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women” according to the Commission’s website.

“It is hard to believe that after all the publicity last week regarding senior clerics blaming women wearing revealing clothing for earth quakes that the UN would take such action,” said Walsh.

“As the first women Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi should take a strong stand against Iran showing that the United States will not tolerate discrimination against women,” demanded Walsh.
