Health Care

Everyone agrees that the U.S. health care system needs effective improvement.  After years of government intrusion, the removal of competition, and out-of-control civil malpractice awards, the system’s dysfunctions have caused costs to rise unnecessarily.  The prescription for improvement is not a bigger dose of what got us where we are.  Instead of finding ways to remove barriers to success in the best health care system in the world, our leaders in Washington are bent on moving backward and adopting the failed systems of Europe and Canada.  Across the globe, citizens of nations with government-run health care experience long wait times, a lack of access to certain treatments and, a lower quality of medical care.

Under the guise of helping the uninsured, Washington liberals led by Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi want to seize more power, and increase our dependent class. In a nutshell, they want is to seize 17% of our GDP (4.3 times more than we spend on national defense) and help a few of their lock-step supporters along the way.

Here is what Nancy Pelosi says, “This is not only about the health of individuals in our country, which will be justification enough ... It’s about the competitiveness of our businesses to make them globally competitive because they are competing with companies and countries where the federal government—their governments—pay for health care. They don’t have to bear those health care costs.”

Incomprehensible?  Yes!  Does anyone really believe that health care funded by taxes and administered by the federal government will really make anyone more competitive?  So who could Nancy Pelosi possibly be talking about?  How about the big Labor Unions?  The government, along with unions, now own General Motors; why not pick up the health care bill?

But at what cost?  The cost will be the death of a health care system that is the envy of the world.  In the United Kingdom people now pay almost 12% of their income for health care.  Adding these the cost increases required by Democrat “reform” plans on top of what we already pay in Social Security and Income taxes spells more trouble for our already troubled economy.

Canada’s system is an sad example of what happens to the quality of care when the government is the sole provider:

  • Patients have long waiting lines for critical procedures
  • There is a lack of access to current technology
  • Taxpayers and patients face increasing costs
  • Canada is facing a brain drain as one in nine doctors who trained in Canada has left to practice medicine in the United States.

So the liberal plan is this: Take over 17% of the nation’s economy, turn our health care delivery over to federal bureaucrats, help our union buddies, and seize greater control and electoral power!

Famous Democrat Robert Reich Admits that ObamaCare Will Let Elderly Die - September 26, 2007

Former Clinton Labor Secretary Reich declares that if presidential candidates were honest about democrat health care reform, they’d admit that it will require that the elderly be permitted to die and denied care because it’s just too expensive, that young people will have to pay more, and that government will force medical providers to reduce their prices, causing a decline in medical innovation. It’s unbelievable ... a truly honest Democrat!

Charlie Rose Interviews Nancy On Health Care Reform
